After Hours Care

Patients from The Lorn Surgery can access after hours medical care in three ways.

  1. In an emergency, dial 000 to call an ambulance or attend your nearest emergency department

  1. If you require free (bulk billed) after hours medical care, please call GP Access on 1300 130 147. GP Access run an after hours GP clinic at Maitland Hospital from 6-11pm on weekdays, 1-11pm on Saturday and 9am-11pm on Sundays and public holidays. Outside of these hours they will provide advice over the phone and direct you to attend an Emergency Department if required (look-up Maitland Hospital wait times here).

  1. If you would like to organise either a home visit or phone consultation with a practice doctor after hours, please call The Lorn Surgery After Hours Service. This is a full fee service. Please read the information provided below before calling for an appointment.

The Lorn Surgery After Hours Service

As part of our committment to providing a premium general practice service, patients of The Lorn Surgery can now request after hours home visits and phone consultations. As a result, practice patients can now access medical care from practice doctors 24 hours a day 7 days per week.

This is a full fee service as per the schedule below (no concessional rates apply).

After Hours Home visits

Mon-Sun 11pm-7am       $45 per 5 minutes (consult + travel time) Minimum charge $405 Medicare rebate $153*

After Hours Phone calls (please note that no Medicare rebate applies)

*Urgent call out for single patient only. Lesser rebate applies for non-urgent visits and subsequent patients seen.

When you call to make a booking a receptionist will take your contact details and transfer you through to the triage nurse who will collect some basic information about the medical complaint you are seeking treatment for. If you have requested a phone consultation the doctor will then call you. If you have requested a home visit the nurse will speak to the doctor on call then call you back with an appointment time.
